About this event

Join CapRadio Host Donna Apidone for an intimate author interview with humanitarian and Holocaust survivor Irene Butter about her memoir, "Shores Beyond Shores."

About the Book:

Irene's memoir is a poignant message against hate and a reminder of the positive impact one person can make when they decide to be more than a bystander. At 13 years old, Irene found her voice silenced when Dutch policed knocked on her door and forced her family onto trains headed for Nazi-controlled camps. There she would befriend fellow prisoner Anne Frank. Butter's memoir covers the trajectory of one young girl who suffered horrific events, yet through empathy and love overcame so much more.

Please consider pre-purchasing your book from our independent bookseller partner, Bookshop.org, or at your local retailer.

About the Author:

Irene Butter grew up as a Jewish child in Nazi-occupied Europe, where she survived two concentration camps before coming to the United States in 1945. Since the 1980s, she has been teaching others about the Holocaust and the lessons she learned surviving those traumatic years. Irene co-founded an Arab-Jewish women's dialog group, the Raoul Wallenberg Medal & Lecture series at the University of Michigan. She is a Fulbright Scholar and has been awarded multiple awards due her humanitarian efforts.
